Even the families wouldn’t bother meeting with Trump. After yet another gun-carrying American citizen killed 22 and left 23 more wounded, Trump went to El Paso to visit the victims’ families. Most of them were Mexican-American.
Very few of the family members, though, were willing to shake hands with the president, perhaps because Trump had spent years: a) disparaging their heritage, and b) encouraging proliferation of firearms which had slaughtered their kin.
So instead he met with staff at a hospital. He praised their work at first. But then, according to CNN, the real Donald Trump came out: “He pivoted to talking about himself, talking up the crowd size that attended a rally he held in El Paso several months earlier and mocking the relatively small size of the crowd that joined presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke.”
John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight, which aired OTDI 2019, gave his take on Trump’s weird inability to feel basic human emotions such as empathy. As Oliver put it, “We all know how Trump struggles to do the bare minimum of being a president but it’s still genuinely shocking just how much he struggles to do the bare minimum of being a f*cking person.”
This, of course, was very much in keeping with what even Trump's own relatives say about him.
Lawrence O’Donnell often cuts right to the point, and he had some tape of Trump at the hospital. We’ll let him tell you in his own words why Donald Trump, as a human being, is unfit to be...pretty much anything.
