At their big debate earlier this month, Harris noted that world leaders often laugh at Donald Trump. She could have included this example in her list. Along with others such as this incident
OTDI 2018, our American president, during the annual meeting of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly, gleefully proclaimed: “In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”
Now presumably most global leaders aren’t fully versed in U.S. political history. But, unlike at Trump’s campaign rallies, there are relatively few MAGA fanboys there. So instead of cheering, they actually broke out in laughter. A literal LOL, right there in front of him.
Trump, who desperately thirsts for "respect," simply didn't get it. At a news conference the next day, our Narcissist-in-Chief argued “they weren’t laughing at me, they were laughing with me” and went on to blame the “fake news” for saying “people laughed at President Trump.”
But as one UN delegate delicately put it: “Sometimes, when we see a behavior or listen to arguments or notions that seem so far-fetched, unreasonable, or insane, there is almost a natural reaction of laughing.”
The WaPo summarized Trump's mindset: “He has always been obsessed that people are laughing at the president. From the mid-’80s, he’s said: ‘The world is laughing at us. They think we’re fools,’ ” said Thomas Wright, a Europe analyst at the Brookings Institution. “It’s never been true, but he’s said it about every president. It’s the first time I’m aware of that people actually laughed at a president. I think it is going to drive him absolutely crazy. It will play to every insecurity he has.”
Btw, you didn't hear about this kind of thing happening at the UN when Joe Biden took the podium yesterday.
