Press reports this week have speculated on which of his many advisors Biden listens to most closely. Is it Advisor A who has worked with presidents across multiple decades, or is it Advisor B who has a career's worth of experience in Subjects X, Y, and Z? Is it the Outside Consultant brought in for their specific expertise on a key topic? Whichever it is, please keep in mind that his team is significantly superior to the band of criminals Trump chooses to surround himself with. Regardless, as we've pointed out in multiple OTDIs, Trump often ignores his policy experts. And when Donald Trump isn't listening to smart people, things tend to go wrong for the United States. Which brings us to today's OTDI.
In yesterday's OTDI, Trump sided with the Prime Minister of Russia over his own advisors. In today’s, he sides with a game show host over his own advisors. Unfortunately, today’s topic was “Deadly Pandemics,’ and unfortunately the host he sided with was extraordinarily wrong.
Chuck Woolery, who had achieved fame hosting Wheel of Fortune and then Love Connection in the 80’s and 90’s, considered himself a Covid expert. Here’s his opinion…which Trump promptly re-tweeted to his 84 million followers:
Four-star Admiral Brett Giroir led the Covid testing efforts under Trump. Perhaps not surprisingly, he disagreed, openly breaking with Trump over his re-tweet. Diplomatically, Giroir noted: "I'm not a Twitter analyst," but "we're trying to be very clear about our message...." He continued: "These are things we can do to control the virus. We're trying to be clear. I think there's unanimity of opinion on that."
Well, maybe I’m wrong, admits Woolery. OTDI 2020, just days after claiming “everyone is lying,” Woolery confessed that his own family member had caught it. And, as Woolery was amazed to learn: “COVID-19 pandemic is real.” Woolery then deleted his Twitter account.
But Trump's continued gullibility to that type of thinking helped him lead the U.S. to one of the "western" world's worst records in fighting Covid.
And that buzzer means we’re out of time…
